Community Resource Sharing Guidelines

Sharing spaces of learning, dialogue, and community-building

At Pirate Press Reviews, we believe in the power of knowledge-sharing and collective action. Our community thrives when members share valuable resources that contribute to our understanding of social justice, anti-authoritarian principles, and the dismantling of oppressive systems. The following guidelines are designed to ensure that shared resources align with our mission and foster a productive, respectful, and collaborative environment.

1. Relevance to the Community Mission

Resources shared within the community should align with the overall mission of Pirate Press Reviews, which is rooted in anti-authoritarianism, critical analysis of power structures, social justice, and intellectual growth.

  • Prioritize content that challenges mainstream narratives and promotes alternative viewpoints grounded in knowledge, history, and social justice.
  • Share scholarly works, academic papers, books, articles, documentaries, and other resources that contribute to the community's understanding of oppression, resistance, and transformation.
  • Avoid promoting content that upholds or reinforces authoritarian, oppressive, or harmful ideologies.

2. Credibility and Accuracy

Resources shared should be credible, well-researched, and factually accurate. The goal is to support our mission of intellectual rigor and constructive dialogue.

  • Ensure that resources are from reputable sources such as academic journals, well-known publishers, recognized experts, or organizations with a proven track record in relevant fields.
  • Avoid sharing unverified content, conspiracy theories, or misinformation that could undermine the quality of our discussions and harm the community's integrity.
  • Cite sources and provide context when sharing resources, particularly when they offer perspectives or data that might be contentious or new to the community.

3. Inclusivity and Accessibility

Pirate Press Reviews is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where resources are accessible to everyone, regardless of their background, knowledge, or resources.

  • Share resources that reflect diverse voices, particularly those from marginalized or oppressed communities, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled, and working-class perspectives.
  • Promote resources that are accessible to a wide range of people, including those with different levels of prior knowledge, linguistic diversity, and abilities. When possible, share resources with clear summaries or accessible formats (e.g., captions for videos, transcriptions, accessible PDFs).
  • Encourage translation or localized versions of key resources if they are not available in multiple languages.

4. Respect for Copyright and Fair Use

Respect for intellectual property is essential. While sharing resources, it's important to honor copyright laws and the creators' rights.

  • Do not share content that infringes on copyright or intellectual property without proper attribution or permission. This includes books, articles, videos, and other media.
  • Provide links to original content where possible, rather than uploading copyrighted materials directly, especially for articles, books, and videos.
  • If you are sharing a resource that is behind a paywall or restricted, ensure that a valid and legal alternative or a publicly available version is also accessible, if possible.

5. No Spam or Self-Promotion

Pirate Press Reviews is a platform for collective learning, not for commercial gain. All shared resources should focus on providing value to the community rather than promoting personal businesses, products, or services.

  • Do not share resources for personal profit or self-promotion, including links to your own commercial products, services, or blogs unless they directly contribute to the community's mission and are of significant value.
  • Avoid excessive sharing of content that is unrelated to the mission or that repeatedly promotes the same ideas, services, or commercial interests.
  • Respect members' time by sharing only resources that you believe will add meaningful value to the conversation.

6. Constructive and Collaborative Sharing

When sharing resources, it's important to provide context and explain how they relate to the community's values and ongoing discussions. This helps others understand the significance of the resource and how it might contribute to their intellectual growth.

  • Provide a brief description of the resource you're sharing and explain how it contributes to the discussion. Highlight its relevance to current issues, social justice movements, or intellectual frameworks.
  • Encourage discussion around the resource, inviting others to share their insights, critiques, or additional resources that complement or build upon it.
  • Foster collaboration by sharing open-source or creative commons resources that can be freely accessed and used by others in the community.

7. Respect for Privacy and Sensitive Content

When sharing resources, be mindful of sensitive content and the privacy of individuals or groups mentioned within those resources.

  • Avoid sharing personal information or content that violates someone's privacy unless that person has explicitly shared it publicly and it is relevant to the discussion.
  • If the resource contains sensitive or distressing content, provide a trigger warning or note to alert others to its potentially harmful nature, so that community members can make an informed decision about engaging with it.
  • Respect the emotional impact of sharing certain resources, especially those related to trauma, violence, or other sensitive topics, and allow space for discussion and support when appropriate.

8. Encouraging Critical Engagement

Resources should be shared with the intention of fostering critical thinking, challenging assumptions, and encouraging deeper engagement with the issues at hand. Encourage community members to not only consume the resources but to engage with them critically and thoughtfully.

  • Promote resources that ask questions and challenge conventional thinking, rather than simply reinforcing existing beliefs or ideologies.
  • Engage in meaningful dialogue by encouraging others to reflect on the content, debate ideas, and propose alternatives.
  • Encourage collective action by sharing resources that promote social change, activism, and community-building efforts aligned with anti-authoritarian and social justice values.

9. Regularly Updating and Curating Resources

As our understanding of social justice issues, history, and critical theory evolves, so should the resources we share. We encourage ongoing curation and updating of resources to keep the community informed of the latest developments and research.

  • Share new, relevant resources that reflect the changing landscape of social justice and anti-authoritarian movements.
  • Update links or recommendations to include the most current and reliable information.
  • Organize and curate resource lists (e.g., reading lists, toolkits, archives) that can serve as helpful reference points for the community.

10. Reporting Violations

If you encounter resources that violate these guidelines (e.g., harmful content, misinformation, or spam), please report them to the moderators. We are committed to maintaining the integrity of the community by ensuring that all resources shared align with our values and support constructive, respectful dialogue.

By following these Community Resource Sharing Guidelines, we can ensure that the resources shared within Pirate Press Reviews help further our collective goal of intellectual growth, social justice, and transformative action. Thank you for contributing to our shared space of learning, dialogue, and community-building.
